"We seek to make a profit" -GMCo. Founding Principle
The Grand Mercantile Company (GMCo.) originated as the much smaller South Maritime Company (SMCo.). The SMCo. was originally a shipping company based in the Midtime Sea, on the north coast of Shevasta's Falling at the foot of Mt. Rushshire, with a small start-up loan from the Asarie family the founder and owner of the company Tobus V. Asarie set out to lay the foundations of what would become one of (if the most) profitable corporations in the new world. Among the first acts of the young SMCo. was to build its headquarters and find a shipwright, while the first year of the company was rather abysmal, and the starting funds had long since run dry, the company would finally find some modicum success as more people entered the new world, new people who would need supplies, connections, and transportation. Despite the small fortune the company had amassed from merely transporting goods across the new world it still wasn't enough. Not to mention tensions rising across the new world who knew if a supplier might suddenly become cut off or fall to a hostile power, the company needed a more controlling hand in its supply chain. It is said that this was a pivotal moment for the company and marked the transition from the South Maritime Company to what would become the Grand Mercantile Company. "Sr. Officer Grimmly, congratulations, you have been promoted to the Head Officer of our new division of 'Asset Manufactory', I've already had Bare prepare you an office and your new orders." Tobus Asaire to (at the time) Sr. Officer Ooran Grimmly 3 months before officially transitioning to the Grand Mercantile Company.
"You know Tobus, despite what Sisura might say life is not all about the money you could make. Life is about freedom, and being able to pursue your soul's wants and desires. Unfortunately for people like us, people with responsibilities and duties that nobody else could understand, it is about power, control, and the ability to force your will onto others." -Syentt Asarie to Tobus Asarie 2 weeks before the first international summit.
